Il monastero Reale di Santa Maria di Pedralbes, più noto come Monastero di Pedralbes (Pedra- pietre e Albas-Bianche, dal tipo di pietra con cui è edificato) è situato in una bellissima zona residenziale della città di Barcellona. Il Monastero di Pedralbes è stato fondato nel 1326 dalla regina Elisenda de Montcada supportata da suo marito, Re Giacobbe II, ed è dedicato alla Vergine Maria. Il Monastero è gestito dalle monache clarisse, ordine fondato da Santa Chiara fondendosi con l'Ordine di San Francesco D'Assisi. Per molti secoli il monastero non era accessibile alle persone esterne ma nel 1972 il Consiglio Comunale di Barcellona ha firmato un accordo con le suore che hanno permesso di adibire a museo una parte del Monastero. Dopo molti anni di ristrutturazione il monastero è stato aperto al pubblico nel 1983.
