Il gracchio alpino (Pyrrhocorax graculus) è un corvide molto comune in molte zone alpine. E' una specie gregaria che si sposta in stormi a volte anche molto numerosi. Ancor prima di vederli si riescono ad individuare grazie al loro inconfondibile verso, un fischio acuto, emesso durante il volo. Questi uccelli effettuano frequenti spostamenti sfruttando le correnti, sopratutto quelle ascensionali, con le quali guadagnano quota per poi lanciarsi in picchiata come dei missili senza apparenti motivi. Mi capita spesso di osservare i loro voli aggraziati e ripensare al loro nome dialettale attibuitogli; "zurle", dal dialetto veneto "zurlare" che significa, gironzolare, bighellonare. In aree dalla forte pressione turistica questi uccelli hanno imparato a non temere l'uomo, avvicinandosi moltissimo con la speranza di ottenere un briciolo di cibo.
