Il Kurhaus di Merano, la seconda città più grande dell'Alto Adige, rappresenta un capolavoro in stile liberty. Inaugurato nel 1874, la costruzione fu composta dall'attuale ala ovest. A rendere indimenticabile quest'inaugurazione furono le luci di 120 lampade a gas (nel 1897 fu allestita la luce elettrica). A cavallo dei secoli invece presero vita le sale di lettura - la prima ristrutturazione fu terminata nel 1911. L'architetto viennese Friedrich Ohmann (1858-1927) progettò la rotonda e la grande sala detta Kursaal, che resero quest'edificio unico nel suo genere e una delle costruzioni più belle in stile liberty in tutto l'arco alpino. Kurhaus e Kursaal furono inaugurati il 31 dicembre 1914. Le pitture del soffitto sono opere d'arte di Rudolf Jettmar (1869-1939), Horatio Gaigher (1870-1938) e Alexander Rothaug (1870-1946). Recentemente il complesso è stato nuovamente ristrutturato ed ora è teatro per diverse manifestazioni come p.e. concerti, congressi, banchetti, balli e presentazioni. Sono 13 le sale capaci di ospitare da 10 a 1.000 persone, a seconda delle esigenze. Un ristorante con pasticceria completa l'offerta e soddisfa il palato dei visitatori. Il Kurhaus è anche sede dell'Azienda di Soggiorno della città di cura e rappresenta il punto di riferimento per gli ospiti stranieri.
