We're not pro's Ann and we don't have to worry about such things. Point is that I don't think you need to make any purchase. Practice and experience through taking photos is far better (more fun and a LOT cheaper!) Your 18-300 is a decent lens which I have not used and who knows, I might be very happy with it - but my experiences with the (supposedly) better 18-200mm don't leave me with huge confidence, especially at the long end. |

Ok - you put forward a convincing argument - maybe I'll bide my time.... |

I know my future kit, Ann, when the (father's) money allows: Nikkor 16-80mm f2.8-4 VR (which is why I'm not too upset that the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 idea has had to be thwarted) Nikkor G 80-400mm f4.5-5.6 VR ( the new one, quite expensive but very good, which I really really fancied from when it was released) Sigma 4.5mm circular fisheye (to replace the full frame version that I had to trade in to get the D7100) A stabilised version (possibly Nikon?) of my old but still gorgeous Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 Apo . The first two (along with Nikkor 10-24mm) would be my standard landscape walkabout kit. The new replacement Tamron 70-300mm VC is very much for the future, it will have its place for when it's more suitable. Of course, other lenses and goodies would get my attention, but that's basically it, in a nutshell. |

You'll need to win the pools - or inherit! But I think a very good system for the travelling enthusiast who wants quality with portability and nothing so valuable that you wouldn't dare use it or take it to the seaside! And I forgot to include the Sigma 8-16mm! And possibly Sigma Art 18-35mm f1.8 etc etc etc.......... |

Lol! No chance of me winning the pools - you've gotta be in it to win it! :) |
