Il castello venne eretto fra il 1850 ed il 1854 dal conte Carlo Amedeo Grosso su progetto dell'architetto Luigi Formento, il celebre autore del tempio valdese e della chiesa di San Secondo di Torino. Esso nel 1904 pervenne al conte Vittorio Solaro di Monasterolo che nel 1920 lo alienò a Giuseppe Davico, proprietario di un'importante catena di alberghi di lusso in Italia ed in Francia. Lo stile neogotico dell'edificio presenta caratteri architettonici ibridi, in quanto miscela elementi medioevali e gotici. E' in fase di restauro e forse per l'autunno verrà aperto al pubblico il primo piano. Un tempo era circondato da un grande parco che includeva, a nord, un vasto bosco e, sulla facciata, uno splendido giardino all'italiana ed un ampio viale d'accesso. Il castello si trova in ottima posizione, a ridosso del centro storico e dei principali monumenti cittadini.
