Stopped on the Tracks... sent on May 09, 2016 (11:00) by Timk2. 44 comments, 2040 views. [retina]

, 1/125 f/4.5, ISO 400, hand held. London, United Kingdom.

Waiting to arrive by train into London at Waterloo Station - it's such a busy station, we always have to wait for another to depart before we can pull in. Shot through the (probably not that clean) train window, at angle, I liked how it was all framed and with all that jumbled up line of intertwining tracks, foreshortened slightly by the short telephoto lens. It was a dull rainy day and I have of course, removed all colour except for the red stop lights. Much editing, especially to the softer and much darker bottom right corner.

I STILL take tons of shots but many are trying to get one special shot from a great scenario, such as the heavy horses or the Parallel Lines tree. I'll take 3 or 4 trying just to get the exposure just right. I will never simply set it to take bracketing shots automatically in the hope that one will be perfect. Don't worry about your camera and the shutter count - your camera will go on and on, compared to other costs, such as travel, even lenses, a good camera is actually quite a reasonable outlay and you will want to change it for an upgrade/more modern technology in another 18 months time anyway. Better to have pushed it to its limits and know you've got the most out of it than mollycoddle it. My D7100 should be with me tomorrow, all paid for now. Perhaps that's why I'm in a better mood than usual and so am being extra nice to you!

Sunsets and sunrises are good but see how many are posted by the very best photographers on this or other quality sites.

As for this image, it's still an example of creating something out of a scenario almost no-one would ever see, let alone try. People respect that, even if they don't actually like it that much.

I've never used bracketing and also take several/many of the same view with slight adjustments in exposure and composition in search of that one shot that will make my heart sing! And, as you know, I'll see a potential photo in almost anything, anywhere - like the public convenience fisheye tile shot or the skylight in the doctor's waiting room that I don't think I've posted here on Juza.....

I hope you don't have to wait in too long for your D7100 tomorrow but will be able to get out and use it!

Weather's due to be rubbish tomorrow though, Ann. All the batteries and bits from the D7000 are carried over, Nikon are incredibly good at continuation, with layout and most things the same, so a photographer can move on without hassle, whilst adapting to and appreciating any changes and improvements too.

As I said, don't try to curb your creativity, perhaps select more carefully what you post and don't feel the need to post every day - this is not that other site! I'm having another day off!! (old camera sighs with relief...)

Did you say you shot orchids yesterday?

Thanks very much Max!

Yes, I did shoot wild orchids but it was just a quick stop off on my way home. I posted one on the other site, should you care to take a look, but I'll probably go back with my macro lens before I post one here.

I'm not really venturing over there now, Ann. I'm sure you'll understand. I can wait (but thought I'd ask)

Only so many red in this gray world,

but many directions

and will reach a beautiful green

to leave for the beauty.

Nice picture.
