"Ficupala" è il nome, in dialetto siciliano del ficodindia. E' considerato uno dei simboli della mia Sicilia. Pianta grassa, presumibilmente, nativa del Messico. I fiori ermafroditi sono generalmente di colore giallo-arancio, si sviluppano all'apice dei cladodi. Anticamente, l'infuso dei fiori essiccati, veniva usato come rimedio per combattere calcoli e coliche renali.
