hoopoe sent on July 01, 2012 (0:30) by Lemure. 53 comments, 5477 views. [retina]

at 300mm, 1/250 f/8.0, ISO 200, tripod. Specie: Upupa epops

Fabio

Thank you all for the steps.

Very pretty as a picture but take my curiosity ', and' a photo montage ..... you see the slip around the upupa.Sembrano two distinct images and subsequently mounted or am I wrong?

It is not a montage and there has been no contour.
Your question is sacrosanct because I darkened the background in a uniform way through the curves to create a mask and then recover the brightness of the subject.
I was not very precise in the brush contours hoopoe but I thought I did a good job.
In fact, looking well you see the signs.
Glad to see that the photos are carefully observed!

Check when it is still pitch dark and the parents have been in business.
I position the camera on a tripod and frame it.
With the aid of a torch I focus on the hole of the nest and lock the focus in M.
Parents must necessarily arrive at that distance if you want to center the hole!
Keep diaphragms rather closed (9-11) so you have to focus on the parent to come if not exactly in line with the bore and unfortunately happens often!
A flash will be installed in a room with better beamer in cases like this where I used a telephoto lens to about 5-7 meters from the scene.
Use the better beamer because I need to keep a very low flash power so you always have a good battery life of the battery during the burst.
Without the Fresnel lens should I work almost full power with aperture closed and so these distances and I a range of a couple of shots. Too few!
Septum the other three flash in slave mode in M ??Powers next to 1/64 because you will find about three feet from the nest.
The outline of the three flash is divided as follows:
One to illuminate the hole and then the chicks that look.
One to the right to brighten the adult front and one on the back of the stage lighting then the subject will be in the air behind when near the nest.
Remote control in hand trying to shoot only when the parent is really close to the framed!
I initially made the problems thinking that the flash may disturb the hoopoe positioned so close instead gives a damn highly of flash and camera!
I pushed myself even shooting with a 20 mm by placing the stand at 40 cm from the nest.
Same thing! Maximum indifference on the part of the parents!
More than once have even laid on a tripod leg ...
I hope I have answered your curiosity.
Thank you again.
Fabio

Thanks for the explanation, you were very precise, I saw a documentary about this photographic technique by Steve Winter while filming tigers, but he 'used cameras "trap." Congratulations again, especially for the patience, commitment and pazzienza to bide his time giusto.Sono a break b ... and too much to ask people if the original shot here in the comments ..... I think it is very useful to the forum (even if the background there 'garbage) appreciate together a picture so 'complex and well riuscita.Ribadisco as Alain artifacts that should be reviewed also because' this photo deserves precision assoluta.Ciao, Claudio. ;-)
