Nome scientifico: Brenthis daphne ( Linneus 1758 ) Dimensioni: Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 23-28 Descrizione della specie: Ali di colore fulvo con macchie e disegni neri. Il rovescio delle ali posteriori è di colore verdastro con una larga macchia di colore bruno- rossiccio e diversi punti nerastri pupillati di bianco. spesso si posa in fiori di rovo, pianta frequentata dalle femmine che vi depositano le uova; i bruchi si possono nutrire comunque anche di viole selvatiche. Maschio: Colore arancio con disegno maculare nero. Rovescio: Ali anteriori di colore arancio con apice giallognolo e disegno maculare nero. Posteriori sfumate di colore rosso violaceo con fascia discale gialla attraversata dalle nervature nere e contornata di nero. Femmina: Simile al maschio ma generalmente più grande. Piante nutrici: Rubus idaeus L. , Rubus ulmifolius Schott. Distribuzione e habitat: Si trova in Europa mediterranea, Russia ed Asia Centrale fino in Cina e Giappone, in tutta l'Italia compresa la Sicilia ma esclusa la Sardegna e l'isola d'Elba. Specie sciafila, frequenta i margini dei boschi e le radure dal piano basale a quello montano fino a circa 1900 metri s.l.m.
