Per questi popoli rappresentava la vittoria del bene sul male e per questo motivo aveva un posto d'onore in ogni rito tribale. Fu importata in europa dal Barone Claus Von Alstroemeir dal quale prese il nome. Nel linguaggio dei fiori rappresenta l'amicizia con tutte le sue sfumature positive e negative.
