Naturally, Ann, it's easy to dissect and work out why elements work out after the shot's been taken and the editing done, it's usually seen, liked and snapped, but the psychological and artistic reasons should not be dismissed - knowing these often helps why an image DOESN'T work and then an evaluation can really be more usefully undertaken. (Goodness, all that sounds wordy, but never mind!)

I find it frustrating when I've 'seen' an image, taken it, found it looks good in camera but then looks rubbish once downloaded! You're right that understanding the motivation behind taking a photo helps when evaluating it! Often, my disappointments are either down to over analysing and contriving the composition at the time of taking, or inadequate processing skills.
