Thank you Peter. I would buy such now with stabilisation, this Sigma of mine is now 5 years old, still looks great and handles beautifully. Very good close focus (1:3). In my experience, lens is largely soft at f2.8 but by just f3.2, it's good at 200mm, excellent other focal lengths. HSM focus is silent and quick. A good solid tripod collar makes it ideal for night-time. If on a budget and need to buy used a lens without stabilisation to allow low enough price, then it's a lovely lens to use, within the limitations I outline. Tamron did a similar, probably similar quality. The fast aperture and close focus makes for great creative lens. I still prefer the Tamron SP 70-300mm VC for everyday long zoom, for the extra 100mm, the VC and usability at all apertures and focal lengths. Hope this helps! |
