Cosa? C'è una sala affrescata dell'Ottocento a Porta Nuova? Un piccolo gioiello della Torino barocca nascosta tra le mura della stazione? Eh sì, avete capito proprio bene. Non tutti i torinesi sanno (anzi, molto pochi a dire il vero) che nella stazione di Porta Nuova si trova una stanza progettata nel 1864 come sala d'attesa di prima classe per ospitare la famiglia reale che aspettava di prendere il treno. La sala ha un'ampiezza di 75 metri quadri ed è stata progettata dell'ingegnere Alessandro Mazzucchetti, mentre le decorazioni e gli affreschi sono di alcuni dei pittori e artisti preferiti di casa Savoia tra cui Francesco Gonin che ha affrescato le pareti di questa incantevole sala d'aspetto. La tecnica con cui la sala è stata affrescata è quella del trompe l'oeil, che fa intravedere porzioni di cielo tra le balaustre, le colonne e i capitelli che arricchiscono questo gioiellino nascosto a Porta Nuova. All'interno di questa sala potrete, inoltre, ammirare un ciclo di pitture che raffigurano gli elementi della Natura (Acqua, Terra e fuoco) raffigurati sottoforma di personaggi della mitologia. Agli angoli della sala sono invece visibili i quattro continenti rappresentati da carte geografiche tenute da angeli che volteggiano in aria. Oltre ai bellissimi dipinti che abbelliscono le pareti, l'interno della Sala Gonin ospita degli splendidi mobili, delle boiseries settecentesche e un magnifico lampadario in vetro di Murano. Non è sempre visitabile questa sala, grazie alle giornate FAI ho potuto, previa lunga fila e attesa, metterci naso.
