Il Mausoleo del Báb Il Báb fu un Messaggero di Dio. La Sua principale missione fu quella di preparare la strada all'avvento di Bahá'u'lláh. Il Báb fu martirizzato nel 1850 a causa dei Suoi insegnamenti, che chiedevano un rinnovamento spirituale e morale. I Suoi resti furono tenuti nascosti per quasi 60 anni. Furono poi trasferiti in Terra Santa e sepolti nel 1909, quando ?Abdu'l-Bahá li depose in una tomba sul Monte Carmelo. Durante una Sua visita al Monte Carmelo nel 1891, Bahá'u'lláh in persona indicò al figlio, ?Abdu'l-Bahá il luogo dove si doveva costruire la tomba del Báb, vicino a un gruppo di cipressi che ancora prosperano dietro l'edificio. Progettato da Shoghi Effendi, l'edificio ha una pianta ottagonale, è circondato da un porticato e sovrastato da una cupola dorata. In una stanza dell'edificio, furono sepolte nel 1921 anche le spoglie di ?Abdu'l-Bahá. L'edificio fu completato nel 1953 in uno stile che armonizza le tradizioni orientali e occidentali. Il Mausoleo del Báb sul Monte Carmelo, il secondo luogo sacro per i bahá'í, è visitato da centinaia di migliaia di persone ogni anno. Luogo di preghiera e di meditazione, è orientato in direzione di ?Akká, dove al di là della baia si trova il Mausoleo di Bahá'u'lláh.
