Erica per pp si intende post produzione, non photoshop, quando in post produzione, quindi col software nikon, hai accentuato la nitidezza, hai incrementato il microcontrasto, accentuando la grana e perdendo l'idea di tridimensionalità dell'immagine.
Magari con un pò di contrasto e meno nitidezza avresti avuto un risultato migliore

in questo genere di foto (still life, non light painting) meno ombre ci sono credo che meglio sia.
comunque ci sono parecchi siti (non so se li posso liberamente postare qui..., al limite mandami messaggio privato che ti fornisco i link) da cui prendere parecchio sullo still life.

Intervengo solo per dire che per luce principale si intende quella fonte luminosa della scena ripresa su cui si misura l'esposizione.
Andare a controbilanciare il contrasto sotto le punte dei pastelli con una fonte secondaria in questo caso è molto difficile volendo realizzare lo scatto che hai realizzato. però avresti potuto utilizzare un flash molto leggero e/o molto lontano per assicurarti che la luce secondaria non schiarisse anche il fondo.
spero di aver aggiunto qualcosa rispetto agli altri...
