Divenuta ormai simbolo indiscusso del Natale a Verona, questa sontuosa archi-scultura in acciaio verniciato è stata realizzata nel 1984. Alta 70 metri (con un peso di 78 tonnellate), ogni anno viene allestita in piazza Bra nel periodo natalizio. Questa architettura-scultura è stata progetta dall'architetto e scenografo Rinaldo Olivieri: la sua intuizione giunse guardando una pianta della città, caratterizzata da due grandi vuoti, quello della cavea dell'Arena e quello della piazza antistante. Fu da questa impressione che nacque una linea ideale, un immenso arco che collega lo spazio areniano con quello urbano, un arco di luce e acciaio che partendo dal tempio della musica va a cadere ed esplodere tra i cittadini. La stella cometa di Verona venne progettata per essere allestita solo per la prima edizione, e con le sue forme moderne all'inizio suscitò non poche critiche. Con gli anni tuttavia i veronesi hanno imparato ad apprezzare la sua sagoma inconfondibile e ancora originalissima a distanza di molti anni dalla prima installazione, e adesso aspettano con trepidazione l'inizio dei lavori di assemblaggio che richiedono alcuni giorni.
