La chiesa di San Carlo e la chiesa di Santa Cristina sono le chiese gemelle poste sugli angoli degli isolati meridionali di Piazza San Carlo, che inquadrano come due quinte scenografiche l'imbocco del tratto meridionale di Via Roma. La chiesa di San Carlo fu dedicata da Carlo Emanuele I a San Carlo Borromeo e iniziata nel 1619. La facciata, del tardo Ottocento, venne costruita da Ferdinando Caronesi e riecheggia quella della attigua s. Cristina. Il campanile (1779) è a pianta quadrata e cella campanaria con cupola ottagonale. Nell' interno l' altar maggiore venne costruito tra il 1635 ed il '65 su un progetto di Andrea di Castellamonte; sono da notare: una Crocifissione di impronta caravaggessca, gli altari barocchi, le sculture di Tommaso Carlone a cui è anche la decorazione di alcune cappelle, nella sacrestia alcuni dipinti settecenteschi.
