Se vi capita di passare dalle parti di piazza Borghese a Roma, potrete passeggiare tra una serie di edicole con esposti oggetti d'altri tempi. In una di queste, una deliziosa persona, Benni (Benedetto), vi mostrerà francobolli, cartoline e libri, raccontandovi la storia di ogni pezzo. Ma la sua storia più bella, che ha anche trascritto in un quaderno per i suoi nipoti, è quella di Alice, la ballerina bianca. Da cinque anni Alice viene ogni giorno a trovare Benni e qui, tra cartoline francobolli, trova puntualmente il suo pasto preferito: molliche di cornetto. Quando in primavera ha la nidiata, passa da Benni con il becco già pieno di insetti e l'ultima presa è per le molliche di cornetto: Benni non sa come faccia a tenere tutto in bocca, ma i piccoli sono svezzati in men che non si dica. Alice li porta un pò con lei all'edicola, e poi li lascia andare al loro destino. Un giorno poi Benni la vide zoppicare: un maledetto filo si era stretto attorno alla zampa sx che iniziava a piegarsi all'indietro. Benni chiamò la Lipu per curarla e gli dissero di portare da loro la ballerina. Benni si accorse solo allora che la sua Alice, che pure ogni giorno da anni gli saltellava attorno, non si lasciava prendere neppure da lui. La vita di piazza non le aveva comunque fatto perdere l'istinto della sua libertà. Deluso non potette insistere e la ballerina, beccandosi la zampa, piano piano, la amputò da sola, liberandosi del legaccio e del piede, ormai inservibile. Tutti in piazza conoscono Alice, ma sanno anche che prende da mangiare solo da Benni. Tra i due c'è una invisibile complicità ed una storia che vale la pena di raccontare. Io l'ho fatto per gli amici di Juza e con il consenso di Benni. Passate a trovarlo, se vi capita: saranno minuti da ricordare.
