Non so dove si trovasse il nido, sapevo solo che in quel tratto di bosco la femmina passava spesso.
Il capanno inizialmente lo concepii per il Picchio Rosso Maggiore, che aveva il nido in un tronco lì vicino.
Una mattina sentii il richiamo della femmina di Astore e capii che sorvolava spesso il capanno durante l'arco della giornata; poi la vidi, più e più volte, utilizzare il tronco secco che si vede nella foto come posatoio. Inizialmente non potevo scattare, perchè avevo il tele rivolto in ben altra direzione e la femmina si sarebbe certamente accorta dei miei movimenti se avessi cercato di inquadrarla. Così decisi di "mollare" il Picchio: nottetempo, sistemai l'inquadratura e modificai il capanno, in modo tale da potermi concentrare completamente sul posatoio in questione. Ci vollero tre giornate di tentativi, alla fine però la femmina, come speravo, arrivò, e fui fortunato: aveva con sè il colombo (o colombaccio?) appena predato. Purtroppo andò a spennarlo da un'altra parte, presumibilmente nei pressi del nido.

Di solito sfruttano i cosidetti corridoi (un passaggio nel folto del bosco libero da ostacoli )
