A Cazzago Brabbia, paesino sulle sponde del lago di Varese, esistono queste costruzioni a forma cilindrica risalenti al XVIII secolo costruite interamente il pietra, simili ai trulli. All'interno di esse si trova una fossa profonda una decina di metri che durante l'inverno, quando il lago ghiacciava, veniva riempita di lastroni di ghiaccio recuperati dai pescatori spaccando il ghiaccio con accette e mazze. Questo permetteva durante il periodo estivo di poter conservare il pesce pescato: il ghiaccio arrivava a poter essere conservato per un anno intero.
