I like this one well enough, Tim, although not as much as the other - clearly I am in the minority in my opinion, though! The angle of the tower is great, as is the sky. I think I would have preferred to see a little less of the rest of the church. All very subjective, of course! |

I prefer the other too, Ann. This was posted up soon after the other and so I guess folk just didn't see the other one. I take your point but in some ways I had to include the whole of the church - certainly at the taking stage one is on auto pilot and if you can get it all in with your so-wide lens, you do! I got others of this church, including nice normal pretty ones in sunshine! |

Oh, yes - I agree. I would certainly include it all at the taking stage and then crop later. I like the effect of the wide angle - nice, normal pretty ones don't necessarily score higher for me! :)) |

The shooting angle and the sky makes the shot impressive. I found the moon. |

Ann - it needs all the image to make it balanced - it would be far too one-sided if any of the left hand side was cropped away. (Cover the screen with your hand or a piece of paper). But thanks, of course. |

I had already done that, Tim. I cropped just to the left of the tiny cross and some of the bottom, up to the bottom of the longest window. It worked for me but I can understand that you may find that too much cropping - it is your image after all and works well just as it stands! |

Thank you for that, Ann. Perhaps I have too much respect for magnificent churches - they're like people to me - I also like to include a little of their surroundings - such as the counteracting organic (versus manmade) trees on the left. I still think it essential to have that bookend of dark on the left - that leaning in tower is very powerful and needs an opposing element. There is much science about composition and what might seem to be better in principle, often isn't when in the field. |
