L'imponente Ponte di Pietra di Ratisbona, mirabile capolavoro di ingegneria medievale con i suoi 310 metri di lunghezza, per secoli unico ponte fortificato sul corso del Danubio, mostrava evidentemente i segni della stanchezza dopo 900 anni di onorato servizio: così le autorità bavaresi hanno intrapreso un radicale intervento di recupero strutturale e funzionale che nasconde la quasi totalità delle arcate dietro pannelli e ponteggi. Fu proprio il completamento dell'ardita costruzione, nel 1146, a favorire la fortuna della città che divenne perno cruciale delle vie commerciali tra nord e sud e tra est ed ovest : nel 1200 la ricca e libera città imperiale di Ratisbona contava oltre 20.000 abitanti ed era una delle più popolose dell'intero continente europeo ...
