Indeed Ann, there is a certain comraderie amongst those who go and Blip helps those keep in touch afterwards too, of course. But you must always learn at your own pace - things can and will fall into place naturally and whilst a week's course can create short cuts and encourage, it is the looking around you and your response that will develop your skills. Not everybody needs to know how to do X Y and Z in Photoshop superwonderfulmagic thingy and if you have a natural 'eye' and a certain flair with basic technical skills to allow you to interprete what you see into what the camera sees, then that counts for far more. I've never been on any course and only learned by looking and reading, as you have. Good photography is a craft and a skill and which one is always learning and improving, for life. No amount of money on the best or latest equipment can ever replace a basic talent or skill.

You are, of course, right, Tim but I am frustrated by the limitations of my technical skills, so I need to concentrate on those some. I can read up on things but it's much more helpful to be shown.
I do believe that the basic ability to take a good photo is a gift - learning can help develop the skills to enable you to make the most of that gift.

I hope you've had a good day of photography, Tim - I shall watch out for your image later to see where you went in the end! Since you mentioned that you met David, I thought you may be interested to know he posted his 1000th blip today!
