Torino è una città ricca di storia e di cultura, ancora oggi disseminata di opere ed edifici che risalgono ad epoche molto lontane e significative per l'evoluzione storica del nostro Paese. Il Santuario della Consolata, anche conosciuto con il nome di Chiesa di Santa Maria della Consolazione, è un'affascinante struttura risalente all'epoca paleocristiana, periodo in cui una modesta chiesa dedicata al culto cristiano di Sant'Andrea fu costruita sui resti di un precedente tempio dedicato a culti pagani. Dal V secolo in poi, questo luogo di culto e l'area circostante hanno continuato a crescere assumendo sempre più importanza per la popolazione del posto, tanto che la chiesetta fu poi ampliata fino a diventare, nel corso del XI secolo, una vera e propria Abbazia. La Chiesa di Santa Maria della Consolazione, in stile romanico, subì durante il 1700 numerosi cambiamenti, affidati all'abile Filippo Juvarra, che toccarono lo stile della chiesa in modo piuttosto radicale per portarla allo stile barocco dell'epoca.Da vedere assolutamente nella Santuario della Consolata è l'imponente Altare Maggiore, opera di Filippo Juvarra sui cui si trovano due angeli in adorazione scolpiti in marmo bianco da Carlo Antonio Tantardini e l'icona della Vergine. Notevole è inoltre anche il Campanile della Chiesa, costruito nell'XI secolo e rimasto la sola testimonianza della precedente chiesa romanica di Sant'Andrea e la facciata neoclassica del 1860.
