Sul finire degli anni '50 a Lambrate ha sede una delle più importanti aziende italiane operanti nei settori della meccanica pesante, dei tubi e relative applicazioni e degli scooter: la Innocenti. Nonostante fosse stata messa in ginocchio dalla Seconda Guerra Mondiale, la Innocenti era riuscita a risollevarsi grazie alle Linea di produzione della Lambretta e alle accorte politiche attuate dal suo presidente e fondatore, Ferdinando Innocenti. Le ingenti commesse ricevute non solo avevano consentito all'azienda di far fronte alle perdite dovute alle vendite altalenanti di scooter, ma avevano determinato ingenti disponibilità finanziarie.L'azienda si trova quindi nelle condizioni di decidere come investire queste risorse.
