Questo soffione riassume abbastanza bene alcune fasi del Big Bang. Nei primi istanti l'universo gonfiò moltissimo, ad una velocità ben maggiore di quella della luce, la così detta inflazione. Dopo 100 secondi le dimensioni dell'universo sono 1000 miliardi di chilometri e la temperatura e pressione del plasma è simile a quella esistente all'interno delle stelle. In tre minuti si forma il 25% di elio e il deuterio, poi la temperatura scende e si arresta la nucleosintesi. Nei seguenti 300.000 anni non succede altro, l'universo è oscuro, buio, poi la temperatura scende abbastanza da permettere il disaccoppiamento materia -radiazione e l'universo diventa trasparente e luminoso. In seguito si formeranno le megastelle, aventi una massa di oltre 200 masse solari, che vivendo pochissimo ed esplodendo come supernove riverseranno nello spazio elementi più pesanti, dei veri semi da cui poi nascerà la vita...
