L'Armeria Reale di Torino è una delle più ricche collezioni di armi e armature antiche del mondo. Ha sede nella manica di collegamento tra Palazzo Reale e le Segreterie di Stato (oggi sede della Prefettura), all'interno di un complesso appartenente al sito UNESCO delle Residenze Sabaude, iscritto alla lista del Patrimonio dell'umanità dal 1997. Nel 1832 furono tolti i dipinti dalle pareti della Galleria del Beaumont per formare la Reale Galleria (futura Galleria Sabauda) in Palazzo Madama trasferita poi nel 1865 nel Palazzo dell'Accademia delle Scienze, Carlo Alberto incaricò allora il capitano Vittorio Seyssel d'Aix di raccogliere ed ordinare nel vasto ambiente ormai vuoto le armi appartenute ai Savoia, in parte provenienti dagli Arsenali di Torino e di Genova, in parte acquistate dalla collezione dello scenografo della Scala di Milano Alessandro Sanquirico nel 1833. Nel maggio 1837 l' Armeria venne aperta al pubblico l e nel 1840 si stampò il primo catalogo ad opera dello stesso Vittorio Seyssel d'Aix. Nel 1842 alla Galleria si aggiunge la sala della Rotonda, per accogliere le armi acquistate nel 1839 dalla raccolta bresciana dei Martinengo della Fabbrica e le armi orientali donate dall'Accademia delle Scienze, provenienti dalla collezione di Carlo Vidua. Nel 1890 esce il catalogo del maggiore Angelo Angelucci, che scheda tutte le armi allora esistenti secondo una serie di lettere seguite da un numero e nel 1898 i tre volumi dell'album fotografico di Luigi Avogadro di Quaregna che documenta l'allestimento storico del Museo alla fine del secolo XIX. In occasione per primo centenario dell'Unità d'Italia, nel 1961, l'allestimento viene parzialmente trasformato e poi nel 1969 completamente smontato: Il museo riapre nel 1977 con una diversa presentazione delle opere in vetrine moderne poste al centro della Galleria e con una nuova sala dedicata alle armi orientali ricavata nel Medagliere.
