La piazza della Cattedrale, nella città vecchia dell'Avana . I bellissimi palazzi barocchi di questa piazza sono stati costruiti nel XVIII secolo e comprendono la Catedral de la Habana, descritta dallo scrittore cubano Alejo Carpentier come "musica composta in pietra". La Cattedrale fu costruita fra il 1748 ed il 1777 come chiesa per i gesuiti e fino al 1793 non ebbe il rango di Cattedrale. Poi si incaricò Pedro Medina di realizzare la facciata attuale; gli affreschi dell'Altare Maggiore furono dipinti dall'italiano Giuseppe Perovani e dal francese Jean Baptiste Vermay a cavallo dei secoli XVIII e XIX. Sino alla fine della dominazione spagnola sull'Isola, nella sua navata centrale fu situato un monumento funerario che conteneva i "presunti" resti di Cristoforo Colombo, poi trasferiti in Spagna ed ora venerati nella Cattedrale di Siviglia. All'interno della Cattedrale, soprattutto la parte dell'Altare Maggiore fu restaurata poco prima della visita del papa Giovanni Paolo II (gennaio 1998).
