Il soffitto in legno dorato fu realizzato tra il 1660 e il 1662 dagli intagliatori della famiglia Botto su disegno di Carlo Morello; nell'ovale centrale, del fiammingo Jan Miel, La Pace, fra le nubi, che tiene ai piedi il Furor guerriero in terra Marte addormentato (1662) scena allegorica che risponde al programma retorico ed iconografico ordito dal letterato Emanuele Tesauro per celebrare la dinastia sabauda. La tela, che misura diciassette metri quadrati, è stata rimossa dal seicentesco soffitto ligneo dorato della Sala del Trono nel luglio 2012, posta nell'adiacente Sala dei Paggi per permettere ai visitatori di poter essere partecipi delle diverse fasi dei lavori - condotti dai restauratori Cristina Arlotto (per la tela) e Renato Bulgarelli (per la cornice lignea) sotto la continua sorveglianza della Direzione di Palazzo Reale ed è stata ricollocata in situ il 14 gennaio 2013, svelando così l'opera al grande pubblico. Un lungo e complesso intervento di consolidamento e restauro ha consentito il recupero e la leggibilità del soggetto decorativo, mortificato da un grande taglio, dai depositi dei fumi delle candele che alimentavano anticamente il lampadario e da ampi ritocchi alterati.
