The compositional choice was dictated by the desire to accompany him in the eye I thought was most interesting (the area of ??light on water and larch) through a fixed course (as noted by Gianluca ) passing the narrow corridor between the trunk and the small larch ... covering shadow areas and down, but bouncing off the look on the boulder in the foreground and then follow the illuminated area of ??the lake, on the boulder in the center, then spreading the pine forest in the background.
Looking at the image repeatedly, the eye is always that way. Even the larch trees in the shade on the top right are the barrier and containment contribiuscono to nail the look.
