Rattenberg è, con una superficie di 0,1 km², il più piccolo comune del Tirolo e, con ca. 400 abitanti, anche la città più piccola dell'Austria. Ma comunque la località è nota anche oltre i confini come "città del vetro".Con il suo centro medioevale, Rattenberg si trova ai piedi di un maniero risalente al X secolo. Fino al 1504 faceva parte della Baviera e già nel 1393 Rattenberg venne menzionato come cittadina bavarese. Ancora oggi sono sparsi nel comune varie aziende operanti nel settore della lavorazione del vetro, i quali prodotti vengono venduti negli incantevoli negozietti di Rattenberg. Ed anche per chi è interessante nella cultura locale trova alcune attrazioni come il museo dell'artigianato.
