Ho passato una magnifica settimana sull'isola di Creta, imparandone ad apprezzare la ruvida bellezza e la schietta ospitalità del suo popolo, a cui dobbiamo tanta parte della nostra cultura. In questa foto ho cercato di catturare sia lo spirito della tradizione che delle difficoltà che la Grecia sta vivendo. Ho composto in modo da creare una curiosa continuità con la linea dipinta sullo scafo e il mare, e in modo da includere la più larga porzione possibile di cielo, di un blu così intenso che nella conversione è diventato nero, in modo da esaltarne il carattere astratto, senza per questo rendere irriconoscibile il soggetto e il suo contesto.
