Commessaggio è un paese con un migliaio di abitanti della "bassa" mantovana, al confine con la provincia di Cremona; l'abitato è costeggiato da un grande canale di irrigazione: il Navarolo. Le odierne canalizzazioni sono frutto della bonifica di un'antica palude alimentata dalle acque di piena del Po e dei suoi affluenti e abitata già nell'Età del bronzo, come testimonia l'insediamento palafitticolo riportato alla luce nella vicina località di Ca' de Cessi.*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ Il ponte sul Navarolo, transitabile in auto, è sorretto da sei barche in cemento con una pavimentazione di assi di legno; è stato costruito nel 1976 in sostituzione del vecchio manufatto del 1583 voluto da Vespasiano Gonzaga Duca di Sabbioneta; di fronte al ponte vi è il massiccio "Torrazzo di Vespasiano", alto 28 metri, originariamente utilizzato come torre per riscuotere i dazi e come alloggio dei militari di guardia. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^La foto è stata scattata il 18 febbraio 2023 alle 18.20; ottimizzata con Raw Therapee e Gimp.
