Le Janas, le fate sarde. Sono forse il volto più sfuggente e affascinante della mitologia sarda. Ci fu un tempo in cui in Sardegna, tra rocce incantate e foreste fitte, si muovevano creature capaci di filare il destino degli uomini e custodire il mistero: le Janas. Strane creature a volte fate a volte streghe a seconda di chi le incontrava. Non le si può definire con certezza e forse è proprio questo il punto. Nelle leggende, vivono in piccole cavità scavate nella roccia, le famose domus de janas, case delle fate, le Janas abitano i confini tra vita e morte, tra passato e presente, tra realtà e sacro. La leggenda racconta che vestivano di rosso, con fazzoletti a fiori portati alla Santa Zita, intrecciavano fili d’oro e d’argento su telai preziosi. Ma dietro la bellezza e l’eleganza, possedevano un grande potere antico, pericoloso, irriverente: quello del sapere. Le Janas conoscevano il ciclo delle stagioni, la panificazione, le arti divinatorie. Curavano, partorivano, cantavano, tramandavano. E come spesso accade a chi custodisce il sapere, soprattutto se donna, furono idealizzate, fraintese, temute. Dicono che apparissero solo la notte, perché la loro pelle era così sottile e pura che il sole avrebbe potuto ucciderle.
