Un ritratto che cattura la posa regale e l’esplosione di colori di un Turaco violetto, un'icona della biodiversità dell'Africa occidentale, qui immortalato in una foresta del Gambia. Il contrasto tra il suo piumaggio blu-viola iridescente e i colori vivaci del becco e della cresta è semplicemente magnifico. A differenza di quasi tutti gli altri uccelli (i cui colori derivano dalla struttura delle piume o dai carotenoidi), i Turachi producono pigmenti propri a base di rame: la Turacina (per il rosso vivo delle ali, visibile solo in volo) e la Turacoverdina (per il verde). Il corpo appare di un blu-viola profondo che cambia tonalità a seconda della luce.
