"A mio nonno, che aveva vissuto il freddo, amava le cose fatte bene e si commuoveva per la bellezza……era un bambino terribile, orfano, allergico ai banchi di scuola non sopportava i libri, era riuscito a finire la scuola con risultati modesti e tanta fatica. Quando disse che voleva studiare medicina la reazione fu di stupore e ilarità. Come medico "aveva una passione mostruosa per il suo lavoro" saltava la cena e tornava in ospedale per i suoi pazienti. Una cosa che manca oggi alle persone è l'idea del "noi", pensiamo in termini di "io" e guardiamo al nostro interesse, ci manca una visione dei bisogni collettivi. Per lui, il "noi" conteneva i suoi pazienti, era la sua dedizione della fatica per prendersi cura senza sosta di un pezzo di mondo. Una mattina al mare una "sua" ragazza doveva allenarsi, ha indossato la muta e raccolto i lunghi capelli sotto la cuffia, cammina faticosamente sulla spiaggia, ha entrambi i piedi amputati a metà, la sabbia è un ostacolo, sorridendo si è tuffata nell'acqua fredda e nuotare verso il largo: "La fatica la devi adorare"......La vita è il cammino, non solo il punto di arrivo."
