La Colonna della Vittoria (Siegessäule) è uno dei simboli più affascinanti e controversi di Berlino, e nasconde molte curiosità che spesso sfuggono ai visitatori. Fu inaugurata nel 1873 per celebrare le vittorie prussiane contro Danimarca, Austria e Francia, ma non si trova nel suo luogo originale: inizialmente era davanti al Reichstag, poi nel 1938 venne spostata al centro del Tiergarten per volontà del regime nazista. In cima alla colonna svetta la famosa statua dorata chiamata dai berlinesi “Goldelse”, alta oltre 8 metri e rivestita con foglie d'oro. Per raggiungerla bisogna salire 285 gradini a spirale, ma la vista a 360° ripaga ogni sforzo, soprattutto al tramonto. Un'altra curiosità: i mosaici interni raccontano scene militari con uno stile sorprendentemente dettagliato e celebrativo. Negli anni la colonna è diventata anche un'icona pop, comparendo in film, videoclip e manifestazioni culturali. Oggi è un luogo di incontro, fotografia e memoria storica, dove passato e presente di Berlino si intrecciano in modo unico.
