C'era una volta, oltre le stelle conosciute, un varco luminoso nel cielo dell'universo. Attraverso quel varco si trovava un regno lontanissimo, dove girava un sole oscuro chiamato Gargantua. Attorno a lui danzava un mondo pallido e silenzioso. Era un pianeta senza colori caldi. Tutto era vestito di bianco e azzurro, come se l'inverno avesse posato il suo trono lì per l'eternità. Montagne di ghiaccio scintillavano come cristalli, e venti taglienti cantavano canzoni fredde che nessun orecchio umano avrebbe voluto ascoltare a lungo. Non c'erano alberi, né fiori, né fiumi.
