Lycaena phlaeas Famiglia: Lycaenidae Sottofamiglia: Lycaeninae Apertura alare: Da 2,4 a 3,2 cm. Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni, isole comprese. Habitat: Margini di boschi e prati fioriti, dal livello del mare sino a oltre 1800 m. Periodo di volo: Polivoltina da due a quattro generazioni secondo l'altitudine, con sfarfallamenti che si sovrappongono da metà marzo a ottobre. Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie piante del genere Rumex. Dimorfismo sessuale: Femmina simile al maschio, ma in genere senza velatura scura sulle ali anteriori, leggermente più grande e con forma delle ali più arrotondata. Variazioni: Gli esemplari delle generazioni estive, di entrambi i sessi, possono presentare una velatura marrone sul diritto delle ali anteriori, inoltre, sempre in entrambi i sessi, vi possono essere esemplari con una serie di macchie azzurre premarginali sul diritto delle ali posteriori.
