Tempo da lupi. È una piovosa mattina d'autunno. Da ore sono appostato nei pressi della carcassa di una cerva predata dal branco. In queste occasioni le speranze sono sempre alte — forse troppo. Durante l'attesa, nella notte umida e silenziosa, fantasticavo sulle immagini che avrei potuto catturare una volta che la luce del giorno avesse avvolto la valle, ovattata dalla nebbia autunnale. Le ore scorrono lente. La pioggia non smette, la luce arriva ma dei lupi nessuna traccia. Il tempo passa e con esso le possibilità di un avvistamento calano esponenzialmente. Ho freddo, sono fradicio e sto quasi per arrendermi. Poi, con la coda dell'occhio, scorgo un'ombra alla mia sinistra. Penso a un'allucinazione, effetto della sveglia nel cuore della notte. Sollevo appena la testa… e la vedo: "Finalmente!" penso...una lupa adulta, bellissima, mi passa accanto a meno di dieci metri senza accorgersi di me. Si ferma un istante, guarda nella mia direzione, poi si avvia verso il limitare del bosco per nutrirsi. Un incontro fugace, ma sufficiente a rendere indimenticabile questa “mattina da lupi”.
