Spinibecco iridato (Rainbow-bearded Thornbill). Il maschio di questa specie ha una stretta chiazza multicolore sulla gola che appare scura finché non cattura la luce nel punto giusto ed esplode in una scintillante gorgiera iridescente, che mostra un caleidoscopio di colori che vanno dal verde al turchese al giallo e al rosso. simile a un arcobaleno. La "barba" del maschio è una caratteristica particolarmente difficile da fotografare, ma molto gratificante. Il suo habitat naturale sono i boschi elfici delle Ande Centrali, ad altitudini che vanno dai 2800 ai 4100 metri, dalla Colombia centrale a sud fino all'estremo nord del Perù. Questi colibrì spesso si appollaiano su rami ricoperti di licheni anziché librarsi in aria, un comportamento legato alla scarsità di ossigeno ad alta quota, che usano per risparmiare energia.
