Le Janas - Se di notte, mentre dormite, vi sentite chiamare tre volte, non vi allarmate sono le janas che vi hanno scelto. Vi porteranno a vedere i tesori che custodiscono e se sarete onesti e non tenterete di rubare, sarete per sempre ricompensati, altrimenti tutto quello che toccherete si trasformerà in cenere e carbone. Le janas sono un piccolo popolo, sono minute, hanno il capo coperto da un variopinto fazzoletto, ricamato con fili d'oro e d'argento, e portano pesanti collane d'oro lavorato. Dicono che siano molto belle; ed il loro corpo sia evanescente, luminoso, a volte tanto luminoso da abbagliare. Chi le ha viste da vicino giura che la loro pelle e delicatissima e che hanno lunghissime unghie capaci di scavare la roccia. Di giorno non escono mai, il sole, per quanto pallido, le scotterebbe facendole morire. La loro vita trascorre in gran parte a filare il lino, a tessere, ovviamente su telai d'oro, e a cucire stoffe preziose che trapuntano con fili d'oro e d'argento. Di notte, quando e luna piena, stendono i panni sui prati ad asciugare. A Cabras, quando c'era la luna, scendevano dalle montagne a chiedere il lievito per fare il pane. Era l'unico modo per far lievitare il loro pane perchè si dice che il lievito che vede la luna, e quello delle janas lo vedeva, non puo lievitare. La notte scendono nelle case degli uomini, si accostano alle culle e a volte cambiano l'intensita della loro luce. Le janas in qualche paese sono piu cattive e dispettose e i paesani le chiamano mala janas. Le mala janas (a dirlo veloce si corre il rischio di pronunciare margiana) sono crudeli, ma qualcuno le confonde con i margiani e le janas e muru o e mele (fate del muro e del miele) ovvero le volpi e le donnole. Bisogna stare attenti a non sbagliare. Le janas sono cattive con chi le vuole truffare. A Monte Mannai, vicino Macomer, una jana ballava felice con gli uomini, ballava su ballu tundu (il ballo Tondo) al suono delle launeddas, passava di ballerino in ballerino, sempre piu velocemente finche non senti la voce delle sue compagne cantare: sos buttones ti chirca.
