Al Shalateen è un paesino al confine tra Egitto e Sudan e anche se formalmente in Egitto, la popolazione è quasi prevalentemente di etnia mormone, quindi di origine africana. Qui si tiene ogni giorno tranne il venerdì, da secoli uno dei mercati di dromedari più importante di tutto il Medio Oriente. Da Al Shalateen passano 2000 dromedari al giorno, vengono poi stipati in camion e portati a Il Cairo dove verranno macellati quelli che sopravvivono ad un viaggio davvero estenuante. Impressionante è vedere i colpi e le percosse e sentire i gemiti di questi animali per costringerli a salire sui camion.
