Bocca di leone siciliana Famiglia: Plantaginaceae Descrizione: Pianta suffruticosa perenne da 20 a 50 cm glabra, eccetto le infiorescenze che sono poco pubescenti e ghiandolose, con fusti legnosi alla base, da eretti ad ascendenti e ramificati, spesso muniti di ciuffi fogliari verticillati all'ascella delle foglie principali. Foglie inferiori picciolate, opposte o verticillate, lineari lanceolate (2-3 x 40-50 mm), le superiori strettamente lineari, sessili, alternate, tutte intere e glabre. Fiori solitari ascellari, peduncolati, intercalati da brattee di aspetto fogliare, che formano un racemo. La corolla di un giallo -bianchiccia, raramente porpora o venata di rosso, di 18-25 mm di lunghezza, bilabiata personata, presenta il labbro superiore bilobo eretto, quello inferiore trilobo, terminante in un tubo strozzato. Il calice a 5 sepali ovati lanceolati, subacuti, pelosi- glandolosi. Stami 4 didinami, stilo persistente, ovario supero Frutto: capsula ovoide con pori irregolari apicali, ricoperta di peli pubescenti e ghiandolosi in fase di maturazione, deiscente, contenente numerosi semi reticolati-rugosi. Habitat: rupi, ruderi, macerie, bordi stradali da 0 a 500 m.
