Coenonympha pamphilus (Linné, 1758) - Famiglia Nymphalidae - Sottofamiglia Satyrinae - Apertura alare: Da 2,8 a 3,3 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni, isole comprese, eccetto la Sardegna. - Habitat: Prati e incolti soleggiati dal livello del mare sino a oltre 2000 m. - Periodo di volo: Polivoltina alle quote inferiori da aprile a giugno e da luglio a settembre. Alle quote elevate univoltina da luglio ad agosto. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie graminacee tra cui quelle dei generi Poa, Cynosurus, Nardus e Festuca. - Dimorfismo sessuale: La femmina è simile al maschio, ma sul diritto delle ali ha il bordo marrone più chiaro. - Variazioni: Sul rovescio delle ali posteriori è presente un numero variabile di ocelli, spesso appena distinguibili dalla colorazione di fondo. Gli esemplari delle generazioni estive hanno il rovescio delle ali posteriori con disegno più chiaro. - Specie simili: Coenonynpha lyllus più chiara e comunque si distingue per l'isolamento geografico.
