La Zerynthia da me fotografata, per il luogo in cui l'ho rinvenuta[Corfino(LU)] è quasi sicuramente una Z. cassandra.Recentemente è stato possibile riconoscere la Z. cassandra come specie a se stante per differenze genetiche a livello del DNA mitocondriale e per il diverso aspetto morfologico dei genitali maschili. in italia l'areale di distribuzione di Z. cassandra si trova a sud della linea del f.Po, mentre Z. polyxena si trova sempre a nord del f. Po.
