Pochi km ad ovest del centro abitato di Fossombrone, il fiume Metauro offre uno spettacolo naturale davvero suggestivo: una profonda gola dove millenni di erosione hanno creato il fenomeno delle marmitte dei Giganti. Le Marmitte dei Giganti, chiamate anche Marmitte del diavolo, sono un fenomeno naturale caratterizzato da profonde depressioni nelle rocce a forma di pozzi circolari formatesi lungo il fiume nelle zone che erano per lo più coperte da ghiacci. Le marmitte dei Giganti di Fossombrone hanno delle dimensioni che variano da meno di un metro di diametro fino a 3-4 metri e si inseriscono in un piccolo e suggestivo canyon con pareti alte circa 30 metri e con una larghezza massima delle due sponde di 13,20 metri. Una sorta di spaccatura dove le acque blu del Metauro rendono ancora più incantevole il paesaggio. Si possono ammirare dall'alto del ponte di Diocleziano.
