Il faro è alto 23 metri, è stato costruito nel 1899 e inaugurato nel 1900, ma ormai da diversi anni è inattivo. Lo spostamento è durato in tutto 10 ore, con il faro che è stato trasportato a una velocità media di circa 8 metri all'ora. Il faro e le suggestive dune di sabbia che lo circondano attirano ogni anno circa 250mila turisti da tutto il mondo.
