In questo splendido borgo conteso da Veneto e Friuli, fino a che l'esito di un referendum del 2017 lo ha definitivamente assegnato alla provincia di Udine, ho avuto la fortuna di incontrare un giovane scultore dai lineamenti e i modi gentili. Nato ai piedi del massiccio dolomitico del Monte Siera, non poteva che appassionarsi all'alpinismo. Ma il debole vero è per il legno, di cui ha imparato i segreti dalla tradizione secolare della Val Gardena. Mi introduce al significato delle maschere incise del Carnevale di Sappada, facendomi un po' tornare alla mente le storie raccolte in Barbagia. Solitamente mi imbatto in volti di irriducibili anziani; questa volta è lo sguardo fresco e pulito di un ragazzo a trasmettermi la speranza che qualcosa di incontaminato, come la valle d'incanto che attraverso, possa ancora resistere.
