Satyrium spini ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) – Famiglia Lycaenidae – Sottofamiglia Theclinae - Apertura alare: Da 2,4 a 3,4 cm. – Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni isole comprese, ad eccezione della Sardegna. – Habitat: Radure, limitare di boschi e cespuglieti, dalla pianura a 2000 m. - Periodo di volo: Univoltina da metà giugno a metà agosto. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie piante dei generi Prunus e Crataegus. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Femmina con macchie fulve più grandi sul diritto delle ali posteriori e mancanza dello stigma androconiale (piccola area di forma ovale più chiara del resto dell'ala, presente sul diritto delle ali anteriori del maschio all'estremità della cellula discoidale ed a cavallo della nervatura radiale) .- Variazioni: Sul diritto del maschio possono mancare completamente le macchie chiare, mentre sul diritto delle ali posteriori della femmina queste possono essere maggiormente marcate. - Specie simili: Rispetto alle altre Satyrium la linea bianca sul rovescio delle ali è più larga e con un andamento più lineare. All'estremità dell'ala posteriore, tra la nervatura anale e la cubitale, vi è una vistosa macchia azzurra che in quello spazio sostituisce la lunula arancione presente nelle altre specie.
